NSA Scandal: Gifty Oware-Mensah released by NIB
The former Deputy Director of National Service Authority (NSA), Gifty Oware-Mensah has been released by the National Intelligence Bureau after being detained on issues relating to fraudulent activities during her tenure.
Oware-Mensah who was out of the country on GFA assignment, was detained by the NIB on Friday upon her arrival and was subsequently denied bail.
Her arrest was in relation to a widely reported investigation into the alleged embezzlement of funds at the NSA, specifically relating to fraudulent payroll activities that occurred while she was in office.
According to sources, the Ghana Football Association Executive Committee member was released on Saturday with terms of her bail unknown.
The NIB is probing Gifty Oware-Mensah’s work at the NSS over allegations that thousands of ghost names were used to defraud the state of millions of cedis in allowances.
The government says it has uncovered a significant discrepancy in the National Service payroll, revealing 81,885 suspected ghost names.
