TTU welcomes 8,933 fresh students at 25th matriculation ceremony

Takoradi Technical University (TTU) has officially welcomed 8,933 newly admitted students at its 25th Matriculation Ceremony, marking the beginning of their academic journey.
The ceremony, held at the Nicholas Aidoo-Taylor Auditorium on March 7, 2025, emphasized the university’s commitment to academic excellence, discipline, and student development.
Delivering his address, Vice-Chancellor Rev. Prof. John Frank Eshun congratulated the matriculants on securing admission to TTU and urged them to uphold the institution’s values. He reminded them that the university is not just a place for learning but also for innovation and personal growth.

Today, by taking the matriculation oath, you formally join this academic community, pledging to uphold the values of integrity, respect, and excellence. This commitment also includes respecting the authority of university officials and adhering to our rules and regulations. Embrace the opportunities ahead with enthusiasm and determination. While there will be challenges, remember you are not alone—your peers, faculty, and staff are here to support you every step of the way,” he stated.
Prof. Eshun revealed that TTU received 10,717 applications, out of which 8,933 students were admitted. He provided a gender breakdown, stating that 5,982 males (67%) and 2,946 females (33%) had enrolled. Additionally, 60% of admissions were into Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programmes, reinforcing TTU’s mission to bridge the skills gap in Ghana’s workforce.
Addressing the new students, the Vice-Chancellor encouraged them to take their studies seriously, make good use of resources such as the university’s e-library, laboratories, and incubation hubs, and maintain discipline.

“Out of the many applicants, you were selected for a reason, and now is the time to demonstrate your dedication to your studies and prove that you belong here. Make the most of the available resources, such as our E-library, general library, workshops, laboratories, incubation hubs and a carrier development office to enrich your experience here at TTU,” he urged.
He also warned against engaging in examination malpractice, drug abuse, alcoholism, promiscuity, and occultism, emphasizing that such behaviour could lead to expulsion.
“I see vibrant and enthusiastic young people here this morning, I urge you to balance your studies with positive social activities. Be mindful of who you associate with and avoid vices such as drug abuse, alcoholism, promiscuity, and occultism, which will lead to your expulsion. Also, avoid swimming at the beach for your safety,” he advised.
Prof. Eshun reaffirmed TTU’s zero-tolerance policy on sexual harassment, stressing that the university is committed to maintaining a culture of respect, dignity, and inclusion. He urged students to report any incidents through the designated hotlines (0201900220 for the main campus and 0201900221 for the BU campus).
“The University has zero-tolerance policy on sexual harassment and reinforces our commitment to fostering a culture of respect, dignity, and inclusion. Report all sexual harassment issues through the hotlines,” he emphasized.
On student concerns, the Vice-Chancellor discouraged the use of anonymous letters, urging students to follow structured communication channels through the Students’ Representative Council (SRC) to address grievances.

Prof. Eshun concluded by encouraging students to balance their academics with positive social activities and take personal responsibility for their success.
“Remember, your final GPA starts now. Attend lectures, rest well, seek advice, and appreciate those who helped you to reach this point. Be security conscious and exercise caution around the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis, especially at odd hours, and be careful with new acquaintances. Stay safe, and make the most of your time here. I warmly congratulate you once again and officially welcome you to Takoradi Technical University. You have made a smart choice, and we are truly honoured to have you join our academic community,” he stated.
The ceremony officially welcomed the fresh students into TTU, marking the start of their journey toward academic and professional excellence.
