Human Resource Development For Health Sector: Joseph Nelson describes Sekondi Nursing and Midwifery College as a critical partner

Western Regional Minister Joseph Nelson, has described the Nursing and Midwifery Training College at Sekondi as one of the critical institutions well positioned for training of quality human resources for the health sector in the country.

“It is a very important institution in the region, devoted to the training of human resource for the health sector” he said

Addressing management and staff of the institution at the school’s premises on Tuesday 4th March 2025, as part of his working visit, the Minister said he has taking note of challenges highlighted by the Principal of the school, Culbert Nuolabong, and would work with stakeholders to address them.

According to Joseph Nelson, as long as the institution falls within his jurisdiction, he would activate the necessary network required to position the College.

Those that fall within the domain of the parent Ministry, he said would be channeled to the Ministry for redress.

“There are some issues that fall within the domain of the parent ministry” he observed.

Joseph Nelson said his primary focus as leader of the region, is to see to it that the region improves in all aspects of life including the health sector.

He explained that quality health care delivery, is informed by quality health service workers, which is always important to note in advancing the welfare of people and that would require all hands on deck to achieve.”You need to be supported” he assured the management of the school.

The Minister told the Principal and his team that his doors are wide opened and that he intends to make the necessary contacts to support the expansion drive of the College.

He also assured the school of his commitment to help address the issue of lack of accommodation and hostel facilities to contain both lecturers and students and also assist in teaching and learning.

He also touched on helping the College to fix the prevailing problem of lack of lecture halls to accommodate many of the over one thousand eight hundred students.

Jose Nelson said the only way to enhance teaching and learning in the school is basically to enhance the facilities to impact the training of the students.

The Principal of the Nursing Training College, Culbert Nuolabong, who received the Minister and his entourage with warmth expressed gratitude to him for adopting the College as his own.

He appealed to the Minister to support the College to deal with challenges of encroachment currently facing the College.

“Now that we want to be a university, we have to jealously guard against encroachment on our lands”
