Ghana Agricultural Chamber President advocates for policy shift

President of the Ghana Agricultural Chamber of Commerce, Philip Abayori has called for a review of IMF and World Bank programs, arguing that they have significantly weakened the country’s agriculture sector.

Mr. Abayori noted that some of these interventions have limited the government’s ability to invest in the sector, making it difficult for farmers to compete and thrive.

He urged the government to channel more resources to agribusiness particularly in value addition on Agri processing to reduce Ghana’s dependence on food imports.

By strengthening local industries, Mr. Abayori believes the country can achieve greater food security, create jobs and improve economic stability.

He highlighted the importance of adopting modern technology using efficient and high-yield seeds and addressing post-harvest losses.

Mr. Abayori cited the need for practical support to help farmers to scale up production.
