Government to introduce premium passport services

The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has revealed plans to introduce premium passport services for Ghanaians with urgent travel needs.

According to him, this is in bid to to make passport services more accessible, with the premium services to be at a relatively higher cost designed to offer faster processing time for urgent travel needs.

He made this known during his recent tour to the Passport Office Headquarters and the Accra Regional Passport Application Center.

The Minister also disclosed that government is exploring ways to subsidize the cost of obtaining a standard 32-page ordinary passport.

He concluded by announcing government’s intention to introduce a three-schedule shift system to clear the existing backlog of passport application, and hinted at an increase in staff strength at the passport offices, upgrade and better equip the place to meet the growing demand.
