Activities for the 68th Independence Day unveiled

The National Celebrations Planning Committee (NCPC) has announced a lineup of events to mark Ghana’s 68th Independence Day on March 6, 2025.
The celebrations will celebrate the nation’s vibrant history and promote national unity, with the theme, “Reflect, Review, Reset.”
The commemoration of Ghana’s historic struggle for independence will begin with a remembrance of the 28th February Crossroad Shooting Incident. On February 28, 2025, a wreath-laying ceremony will take place at Nationalism Park in Accra at 8 a.m., marking the event’s significance. The ceremony will be broadcast live and streamed across multiple media platforms for broader participation.
In the lead-up to the event, the Communications Subcommittee of the NCPC will share educational content via TV, radio, and social media, emphasizing the importance of the incident and its role in Ghana’s path to independence. Additionally, an X-space conversation titled “The Changing Face of Civil Protests in Ghana: Lessons from the Past and Present” will be held to foster discussions on civil activism.
Other activities will include the finals of a nationwide school quiz competition on March 2, a debate competition on March 4, and the President’s School Children Awards program on March 5.
The celebrations will conclude with a ceremonial parade at the forecourt of the Presidency on March 6, featuring cultural performances and poetry recitals by students. Dignitaries, including chiefs, religious leaders, and sector representatives, will attend the event.
The NCPC has urged media outlets, bloggers, and the public to engage actively in promoting these events and sharing information to encourage wider involvement. This year’s scaled-back celebrations reflect a commitment to cost-saving measures while preserving national pride and reflection.
Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Spokesperson to the President and Minister for Government Communications, expressed confidence in public participation and emphasized that the activities aim to honor Ghana’s heroes and inspire a renewed sense of patriotism. Further updates on additional activities will be shared in the coming days.
