Gregory Afoko granted GH₵500k bail after nearly 10 years on remand

The Accra High Court has granted Gregory Afoko, the accused in the murder of former NPP Upper East Regional Chairman Adams Mahama, bail set at GHC500,000.

The bail conditions require two sureties, who must provide proof of landed properties. Additionally, the court ordered Afoko to report to the chief investigator, the regional crime officer in Accra, or the Director General of CID every two weeks until the case is concluded.

Afoko’s legal team submitted the bail application on Monday, February 17, marking his third attempt for bail since his trial began nine years ago.

On April 27, 2023, a jury acquitted Gregory Afoko of the charges of conspiracy to commit murder and murder, returning a verdict of not guilty. Following this decision, a retrial was ordered for Afoko, while his accomplice, Asabke Alangdi, was sentenced to death after being found guilty.
