The government under President John Dramani Mahama has approved a 10% salary increase for all public sector workers after successful negotiations with the Labour Union.
The last salary hike for public sector workers in Ghana was in 2024, when the previous government, led by Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, approved a 23% raise to address the cost of living and economic challenges.
President Mahama personally engaged with union representatives to gain their support for the new increase, emphasizing the government’s commitment to easing financial pressures during tough economic times.
Dr. Rashid Pelpuo, Minister of Labour, Jobs, and Employment, announced that the salary increment will take effect on March 1, 2025.
Along with the salary increase, the national daily minimum wage has been raised by 10%, bringing the new wage to 19.97 cedis. This updated minimum wage will come into effect on March 1, 2025.
