OSP removes Kenneth Ofori-Atta from wanted list

The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has removed former Finance Minister Kenneth Nana Yaw Ofori-Atta from its wanted list after he confirmed a definite date for his voluntary return to Ghana.

In a press release dated February 18, 2025, Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng announced that Ofori-Atta, who was declared a fugitive on February 12, had now committed to returning to the country.

The OSP had previously listed him as wanted after he failed to provide a return date, despite being instructed to appear in person for questioning regarding alleged corruption and related offenses.

According to the OSP, Ofori-Atta, through his legal representatives, officially notified the office of his intended return, prompting a reassessment of his status. His appearance has now been rescheduled to align with his confirmed date of arrival.

“As a result, Mr Ofori-Atta has been removed from the OSP’s list of wanted persons and is no longer considered a fugitive, provided he returns as agreed,” the statement said.

The OSP, however, cautioned that if he fails to return or misses his scheduled meeting, his name will be re-listed as wanted, and legal measures will be pursued to guarantee his appearance.

Ofori-Atta, who was Finance Minister from 2017 to 2023, is under investigation for alleged corruption. His removal from the list follows weeks of speculation regarding his location and his willingness to cooperate with the investigation.

The OSP reiterated its dedication to upholding due process and ensuring accountability in corruption cases.
