Communications Minister instructs NCA to close 7 radio stations

Samuel Nartey George, the Minister for Communication, Digital Technology, and Innovation, has ordered the shutdown of seven radio stations in Ghana, citing concerns over national security and violations of regulations.

In a statement released on Tuesday, February 18, the Minister directed the National Communications Authority (NCA) to take immediate action to enforce the closure of the affected stations.

The NCA has been instructed to enforce compliance with the Electronic Communications Act, which requires all radio stations to operate with valid frequency authorizations.

The Minister reiterated his dedication to regulating the airwaves and called on all media outlets to adhere to the terms of their licenses.

Two official media advisories from the ministry outlined the closures, including the immediate shutdown of Gumah FM in Bawku over security concerns, and enforcement actions against six other stations for licensing violations.
