The Western Regional Minister, Joseph Nelson, has launched a crusade against poor sanitation in the region.
He said his bold initiative is a direct response to the recent cholera outbreak that has affected certain areas of the region, and the alarming health risks that have been arisen as a result.
On Monday, February 17, 2025, during their inaugural meeting, the Western Regional Minister urged the coordinating Directors of the various Assemblies to restore the Western Region’s reputation and bring it back to its former glory.
He urged them to prioritize the fight against poor sanitation, emphasizing that the recent cholera outbreak in parts of the region serves as stark reminder that improving sanitation is a shared responsibility.
He said the outbreak of cholera could not have been attributed to anything than the poor management of sanitation and hygiene in the region.
Regional Minister issued a stern warning to all Coordinating Directors across the region, directing them to take firm action against institutions and companies responsible for waste management in their areas.
He emphasized that every Assembly must develop and implement comprehensive sanitation management plans to prevent gaps and deficiencies in waste management.
He said under his administration as the Regional Minister, he will leave no stone unturned in dealing decisively with perpetrators of poor waste management in their respective areas.
