South Korean actress Kim Sae-ron has been found dead in her Seoul home, according to police reports.

The 24-year-old was discovered by a friend around 16:55 (07:55 GMT) on Sunday in the Seongsu-dong district.

Authorities have found no signs of foul play and are investigating the cause of death, with suicide being considered a probable cause.

Born in Seoul in 2000, Kim began her career as a child actor and was recognized as one of South Korea’s most promising young actresses.

She gained prominence with her role in the 2009 film “A Brand New Life,” which led to her appearance at the Cannes Film Festival.

She continued her rise to fame with performances in “The Man from Nowhere” (2010) and “The Neighbor” (2012), earning award recognition for the latter.

In 2022, Kim faced public scrutiny following a drink-driving incident, for which she was fined 20 million won in April 2023. This event led her to withdraw from the public eye.

Her last role was in Netflix’s 2023 Korean drama “Bloodhounds,” although much of her part was edited out due to the incident.

The news of her death has reignited discussions about the intense pressures faced by celebrities in South Korea.

Fans and colleagues have expressed their condolences, while advocacy groups emphasize the need for greater compassion and reflection to prevent future tragedies.
