The Ministry of Energy and Green Transitions has reassured Ghanaians that Karpowership will remain operational despite threats of a shutdown.
The Ministry is taking necessary actions to prevent any disruptions to the power supply.
Karpowership recently informed the Ministry that it would suspend power supply unless the Electricity Company of Ghana settles its $379 million debt to the company immediately.
Isaac Adjei Boakye, the Public Relations Officer for the Ministry of Energy and Green Transitions, stated that the Ministry is in ongoing discussions with the Ministry of Finance to create a payment plan for the outstanding debt.
“With the WAPCO maintenance schedule, the government procure enough fuel to fill in a gap. But as we speak, has not shut down, and that one has to be made clear. In as much as they threatened to shut down as a result of non-payment of commitment, they’ve not shut down. What they are saying, I don’t want their money. Oh, they’ll shut down.”
” The honourable Minister engaged them, pleaded that there is a new government and is now that the government is being put in place fully to make it operational. But then outstanding, everything we’ve done within his mandate to ensure that car power does not shut down.”
” One of the key issues on the table has to be with the equipment plan. Please engage them, and assure them of his commitment to ensure that payment is made. Certainly, we cannot pay all, but at least if the government is to pay something, I believe Karpower will come down and, this trade could be finished.
