Following the announcement of the government’s legalization of commercial motorcycle operations popularly known as Okada in the country.
Some Okada riders in the Sekondi Takoradi Metro have shared varied views on the government’s decision.
According to the Minister of Transport, Mr. Joseph Nikpe, the government is ready to review the law that would legalize commercial motorcycle operations in the first quarter of 2025.
The Minister says the review is meant to regularize the loads business, which is a campaign promise.
A score of Okada and Pragyia riders within the Ntankoful and Kansawordo enclave said the job is lucrative as it serves as a source of livelihood for their families.
Besides this, the operation is beneficial to many members of the public, as motorcycles have become an easy source of transportation wherever they operate and the quickest way to get to certain destinations.
However, they say, some of the operators create a lot of nuisance on the road and refuse to accept faults.
Some, however, tend to use pavements and every available unapproved route.
They nonetheless approved of the legislation to aid their trade.
