Minority Caucus raises concerns about fairness of Ad-hoc committee chair

The Minority Caucus in Parliament has formally raised concerns about the chairmanship of the Ad-Hoc Committee, leading them to submit a petition to the Speaker of Parliament.

In a memorandum to Committee Chairman Hon. Emmanuel Bedzrah, Minority Leader Osafo Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin indicated that the caucus is awaiting the Speaker’s response before moving forward with the committee’s work.

The memorandum, which was also sent to the Majority Leader and Leader of Government Business, expresses concerns about the fairness, impartiality, and credibility of the committee’s proceedings.

The Minority has clarified that their position should not be seen as a refusal to engage with the committee, but as an effort to ensure due process and transparency.

They have urged the Speaker to address their concerns in a way that maintains the integrity of Parliament. The Speaker’s decision is expected to have a significant impact on the direction of the committee’s work.

Meanwhile, the Minority Caucus has reaffirmed its commitment to a resolution that inspires confidence in the process.
