Sekondi High Court jails 23-year-old for stealing $1,300 from employer
Her Worship Dromo Afarley Djarbeng of Sekondi Magistrate Court ‘B’ has sentenced Richard Manful, 23 years old to 12 months imprisonment with hard labour for stealing $1,300 from his employer.
According to the prosecution, led by Inspector Augustina Owusua, the complainant, Prince Bassaw, a lotto agent residing in Essipong, had employed Manful several years ago to assist in his daily business operations.
On July 19, 2024, Prince Bassaw discovered that his brown wallet containing $1,300 had vanished from his wardrobe. Upon investigating further at his shop, he found that Richard Manful, the assigned attendant, was absent without explanation.
As Bassaw’s suspicions intensified, he assembled a group of young men to track down Manful at his Sekondi hideout. Upon apprehending him, they turned him over to the authorities and filed a formal complaint.
During the subsequent police investigation, Manful confessed to the crime, alleging that he had given the stolen funds to an individual named Francis, who had promised to facilitate his travel abroad.
However, Manful failed to provide any substantial information about his purported accomplice.
Following a thorough examination of the evidence, the court delivered a guilty verdict and imposed a 12-month prison sentence with hard labor.
