President John Dramani Mahama has taken his thank-you tour to the Western Region.
During a durbar with the chiefs and people in Sekondi-Takoradi, he revealed plans to amend the Public Holidays Act to reinstate July 1 as a public holiday.
President Mahama announced that July 1 will be designated as National Prayer and Thanksgiving Day. He reassured the chiefs and people of the Western Region that he values the trust they have placed in him and is committed to working hard to reset Ghana’s progress.

The Omanhen of Esikado, Nana Kobina Nketsia, urged the President to intensify efforts in combating the galamsey (illegal mining) menace.
He also assured the chiefs and people of the region of their full support in this battle. Nana Kobina Nketsia expressed strong backing for the President’s Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL).

“This visit reaffirms the importance of this region, also highlights the value you’ve placed on our contribution to the country’s growth. We’d want to believe that your presence here in a region that has suffered so much for this country is to tell us that you are the healer president.
As you’re aware, Ghana stood divided in the name of Western democracy. As chiefs and people who are happy about the setting up of the constitutional review committee; we hope we can have a constitution on the thoughts and values of our ancestors that manifest in our African personality and not a constitution that is often described as a hybrid of French and American. All of us here are Africans.”

“We do not want to be French or American. We wouldn’t be here. Further, your excellency, the idea of oral is so laudable in Africa. Oral should be a guiding spirit in our public service existence. Our current constitution speaks loud of probity, accountability, and transparency.
And that is why we are pleased with oral. Any critique of such a body is only to enhance it and make it worthy of the acrolin. We are all members of ORAL,”
President Mahama also acknowledged the work of health officials in managing the cholera outbreak in parts of the region.
He advised the people to prioritize hygiene, particularly when it comes to the sources of their drinking water and food.
