The Ministry of Roads and Highways has announced plans to reintroduce road and bridge tolls across the country to generate revenue for road maintenance and related infrastructure projects.
According to a press release signed by Nasir Ahmad Yartey, Head of the Public Relations Unit, the government is working on modalities for a modern, technology-driven toll collection system to ensure efficiency and convenience.
The ministry assured the public that the process will be conducted through an open, transparent, competitive, and cost-effective procurement system.
The aim is to introduce a modernized tolling system that addresses challenges associated with road maintenance funding in the country.
This development marks a shift from the previous abolition of tolls in 2021, which was part of the government’s economic policies at the time.
The reintroduction is expected to improve revenue generation for road infrastructure development.
The ministry has reiterated its commitment to ensuring that the new tolling system is fair, effective, and beneficial to road users and the country’s transportation network.
