Nsoatreman FC’s Ignatius Baffour-Awuah granted bail

The bank-roller of Nsoatreman FC, Ignatius Baffour Awuah has been granted bail after his arrest by the Police on Monday, February 3, 2025.

The former Minister of Employment and Labour Relations was arrested alongside two other individuals following the violent incident that occurred during Nsoatreman FC league game against Asante Kotoko at the Nana Koramansah Park on last Sunday.

The violent incident resulted to the tragic death of popular Asante Kotoko supporter Francis Frimpong otherwise known as Nana Pooley.

On Monday, February 3, the Ghana Police Service announced the arrest of Ignatius Baffour-Awuah as well as Agyemang Duah Owusu and Kyeremeh Joseph to assist with investigations.

The Police, in a statement, said search of Agyemang Duah Owusu’s residence led to the discovery of two dresses with suspected bloodstains and an MP 23 pistol loaded with 15 rounds of ammunition.

Reports reaching us indicate that Ignatius Baffour-Awuah and Kyeremeh Joseph have been granted bail of Gh¢500,000 with two sureties and their passports seized. The two are to report to the police for a two-week period.

For Agyemang Duah, he has been remanded into police custody for two weeks.

The Inspector-General of Police, Dr George Akuffo Dampare, has personally reached out to the bereaved family and the leadership of Kumasi Asante Kotoko FC, offering condolences on behalf of the Police Service. He assured them of a thorough investigation to bring the perpetrators to justice.

In order to ensure a swift and comprehensive probe, a special team from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Headquarters has been deployed to support the Bono Regional Police Command in its investigations.

The Ghana Police Service has urged the public to remain calm as they work diligently to discover the circumstances surrounding the incident.
