The Minority Leader, Mr. Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has claimed that members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) on the Parliament’s Appointments Committee ignored Speaker Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin’s order to suspend the ministerial vetting until the Appointments Committee was reconstituted.
Despite the ongoing debate over the Speaker’s directive, the majority of the Appointments Committee members continued with the vetting process, sparking backlash from the Minority.
During a media briefing with members of the Parliamentary Press Corps (PPC) on Monday, February 3, 2025, the Minority Leader explained that Speaker Bagbin, in his ruling on Friday, January 31, 2025, had directed the Selection Committee to promptly reconstitute the Appointments Committee. However, the majority chose to ignore this directive.
The majority, disregarding the Speaker’s ruling, went ahead with the vetting process, despite the belief that the directive had effectively dissolved the Appointments Committee, Mr. Afenyo-Markin reiterated.
“We are aware that the NDC majority itself has disrespected Mr. Speaker’s orders. In fact on the day, one of his consequential orders was that the Selection Committee must meet immediately and reconstitute the appointment committee.
