Committee investigating the parliamentary turmoil to begin its public hearings on February 5

The committee probing the recent disruption in Parliament will kick off public hearings on Wednesday, February 5.
Committee Chairman Emmanuel Bedzrah made this announcement during a press conference on Monday, February 3.
The investigation comes in the wake of a violent altercation between the Majority and Minority sides during the vetting of ministerial nominees on Thursday, January 30. The clash resulted in the destruction of public property, which led Speaker Alban Bagbin to establish the seven-member committee.
Mr. Bedzrah assured the public that the investigation would be conducted with fairness and transparency. He urged MPs, media representatives, and witnesses at the vetting to share any relevant information.
Additionally, the committee has set up a digital platform, including a WhatsApp channel, for individuals to submit videos, audio recordings, and photos as evidence.
Mr. Bedzrah stated, “We will begin reviewing video evidence from Parliament today.”
He further explained that forensic experts from the police would assist in analyzing and verifying the multimedia evidence.
The public hearings will provide an opportunity for individuals to testify openly about the events that transpired.
“These hearings will offer an opportunity for those with firsthand knowledge of the chaotic scenes to come forward and share their accounts,” Mr. Bedzrah said.
The Speaker of Parliament formed the committee on January 31, and so far, four MPs have been suspended for two weeks due to their involvement in the incident.
The committee’s primary responsibility is to identify those accountable and propose suitable actions.
