Tems bags top award at 2025 Grammy
At the 67th annual Grammy Awards, Nigerian singer, Temilade Openyi popularly known as Tems went home with one of the top awards at the event.
Tems bagged the ‘Best African Music performance ‘ with her song “Love Me Jeje” during the event, beating strong competitions from fellow countrymen Burna Boy, Asake and Wizkid for their collaboration on “MMS,” Yemi Alade, and Chris Brown’s “Sensational,” which features Davido and Lojay.
This becomes her second Grammy award after the first one in February, 2023 where she won the Best Melodic Rap Performance Grammy for her collaboration on “Wait For U” with Future and Drake. That same month, she won the Female MVP award at the Soundcity MVP Awards held at the Eko Convention Centre in Lagos.
Tems started her music career when she left her job in digital marketing in 2018. She began to learn self production skills on YouTube and on July 18, 2018, she released her debut single, “Mr Rebel”, a song which she produced by herself.
She released another single “Try Me” in August, 2019 and was subsequently chosen as one of “ten artists to watch” that year. A year after, she was featured alongside fellow Nigerian singer Davido on a reworked version of American singer-songwriter Khalid and English electronic music duo Disclosure’s single, “Know Your Worth” and from there Tems has gone ahead to become a global Superstar.
