Norbert Gborgbortsi calls for skills-based education in Ghana, praises committee appointment

An educationist, Norbert Gborgbortsi, says Ghana’s education system shouldn’t be book-based but be incorporated with skill acquisition.
Mr. Gborgbortsi, in an interview on Spice FM, said that President Mahama’s appointment of the eight-member committee on education is laudable, as it would bring about some gains in the education sector.
This decision comes on the back of the President fulfilling his promise to Ghanaians to bring about some reforms in the education sector.
Mr. Gborgbortsi emphasized that the education system needed to be structured to make the citizens more efficient and effective.
He recounted the days when educational institutions had skills workshops like carpentry and welding, amongst others, which equipped students with some skill sets for their livelihoods.
He called for more workshop facilities that can train students with hands-on skills to make them more employable.
While advising the committee, he suggested that stakeholders be involved in this national exercise.
