Appointments Committee apologizes for chaos during vetting session

The Appointments Committee has issued a formal apology to Ghanaians following the disruption that marred Thursday evening’s vetting session.

The session, meant to assess nominees Kwabena Mintah Akandoh and Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, descended into chaos as tensions flared between the Minority and Majority Caucuses.

The disruption began when the Minority proposed postponing the vetting to Friday, citing concerns over the day’s proceedings. However, the Majority strongly opposed the suggestion, insisting that the session continue as scheduled. The disagreement escalated, leading to a heated confrontation, with some Minority members breaking tables and microphones in an attempt to force a delay.

Despite the disorder, the Majority maintained that the committee was following its established schedule and pushed for the vetting to proceed. The chaotic scenes prompted an increased security presence in the conference room to restore order.

In a statement, the Appointments Committee expressed regret over the incident and assured the public that steps would be taken to prevent similar disruptions in the future. They reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring that the vetting process remains orderly and respectful.
