Rashid Pelpuo commits to enhancing conditions for National Service Personnel
Abdul-Rashid Hassan Pelpuo, the Minister-designate for Labour, Jobs, and Employment, has expressed his commitment to improving the welfare of national service personnel in Ghana.
During his vetting on Thursday, January 30, 2025, Pelpuo was asked about his plans to enhance the National Service Scheme (NSS), particularly in terms of allowances and job opportunities.
Although he clarified that the NSS does not fall directly under his ministry, he assured that he would support any efforts to improve the conditions of national service personnel.
He cited Article 24(1) of the Constitution, which mandates the government to provide fair working conditions, including safety and health
“I wish the National Service Scheme was under my direct care, but it is not. However, my overall duty is to ensure that Ghanaian workers are properly engaged,” he said.
“On that basis, I will support any move to increase the allowance of national service personnel and improve their conditions,” he added.
With national service personnel across the country calling for better pay and improved job placements, many will be closely watching how the new minister advocates for their welfare once confirmed.
