I haven’t started opposing the NDC at this point – Afenyo Markin
Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has stated that he has not yet fully started opposing the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government.
In an interview on Channel One TV, Afenyo-Markin clarified that, at this point, he is giving the government room to function. However, he suggested that more robust opposition may come in the future.
“At a point, the NDC put up a posture. It’s difficult to be in government. Now, I’m giving them a breather. I haven’t started any opposition yet,” the Effutu MP said.
He remembered how, when the NDC was in opposition, they made things challenging for the government at the time. Now, as Minority Leader, he’s adopting a different approach by giving the government space to stabilize.
Even so, he commended Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga for his diplomatic leadership in Parliament, noting that Ayariga has been instrumental in fostering consensus between the Majority and Minority sides.
“Ayariga’s diplomacy is at an all-time best. He engaged in some useful discussions that led to the apology,” Afenyo-Markin noted.
His comments imply that, although he’s holding back for the moment, a more assertive opposition could emerge in the future.
