John Ansah has been elected the new Chairman of the Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA) after a decisive election on Thursday, January 23, 2025, at the GHALCA Secretariat at the Accra Sports Stadium.
Ansah secured an impressive 95 votes, significantly outpacing his competitor, Isaac Wilberforce Koomson, who garnered just 35 votes.
Ansah succeeds Kudjoe Fianoo, who stepped down after a long and impactful tenure. His leadership is expected to usher in fresh ideas and a renewed approach to GHALCA’s operations, with a strong focus on strengthening the association’s presence within the football community.
The election results provide Ansah with a clear mandate to pursue his vision and strategies for promoting growth and unity among the clubs.
In a significant development, Phyllis Marku successfully retained her position as Vice Chair, defeating Nana Amankwaa Kwakye. Her continued leadership alongside Ansah is expected to strengthen the association’s efforts in promoting gender inclusivity and empowering women in sports. The collaborative partnership between the two is seen as crucial in advancing GHALCA’s initiatives.
With three terms of experience as an executive member of GHALCA, Ansah is well-positioned to lead the association toward a brighter future. He has outlined a vision focused on ethical governance, transparency, and integrity.
“My vision is to build a better future for all members by promoting responsible leadership,” Ansah stated, emphasizing the importance of club welfare and collaboration within the association.
The election saw strong participation, with 134 members casting their votes, including representatives from the Premier League, Division One, Regional Football Associations (RFAs), and the Women’s Premier League. Koomson’s candidacy was his third attempt at the chairmanship, following defeats in 2016 and 2020.
As Ansah takes on his new role, attention now turns to how he and his team will tackle the challenges ahead and bring their vision for the future of Ghanaian football to life.
