EKMA: Majeed Dokurgu vies for MCE position, pledges dev’t and hope

Majeed Dokurgu has thrown his hat into the ring for the MCE position of the Effia-Kwesimintsim Municipal Assembly (EKMA).

Abdul-Majeed Iddrisu Nassam, popularly known as Majeed Dokurgu, the NDC’s Parliamentary Candidate for the Effia Constituency in the recently concluded December polls, has thrown his hat into the ring for the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) position of the Effia-Kwesimintsim Municipal Assembly (EKMA).

Dokurgu, alongside nine other contenders—including former parliamentary candidates and constituency executives—underwent vetting by the party’s regional leadership at the NDC regional office in Sekondi on Monday, January 20, 2025.

Speaking to Beach FM after his vetting, accompanied by Chiefs, Queen Mothers, Elders, and supporters, Dokurgu expressed confidence in his prospects, emphasizing his commitment to advancing development in the municipality.

“So far so good. Everything asked in there pertains to the job we’ve applied for and our party’s vision. What we are all calling for is to ensure our municipality, districts, communities, constituencies, and environments progress in development. We must provide our youth with the requisite jobs and support our market women to grow their businesses, restoring hope to our communities,” he said.

Majeed Dokurgu highlighted his deep familiarity with the challenges facing the municipality, particularly in the Effia Constituency, where he contested the parliamentary elections.

“EKMA comprises two constituencies—Effia and Kwesimintsim—with many similarities. Having contested in Effia and traversed its lengths and breadths, I understand the enormous problems it faces and have proposed solutions. Although the election didn’t go as we hoped, I believe God works in mysterious ways. This is an opportunity to bring the change we envisioned for the people,” he noted.

He also expressed confidence that his appointment as MCE would not only bolster development in the municipality but also strengthen the NDC’s political standing in the region.

“I think this is the time for the party to support Majeed to realize the development agenda I have for the community. This will ensure that the NDC becomes stronger in Kwesimintsim and Effia, capable of withstanding any election victoriously. While Kwesimintsim now has an NDC MP, Effia came close. With my appointment as MCE, I believe we can sustain Kwesimintsim and win Effia for the first time,” he added.

Across the Western Region, 135 individuals are vying for MCE, Metropolitan, and District Chief Executive positions in 14 assemblies. The regional party leadership will shortlist three candidates per assembly and forward the names to the President, who will appoint one for each position.
