A closer look at Mahama’s 42 ministerial nominees so far
President John Dramani Mahama has so far nominated 42 individuals to serve as ministers, including seven women and 24 Members of Parliament (MPs).
First Batch
On January 9, 2025, President Mahama announced his initial set of ministerial nominees, which included:
- Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson (MP) – Minister for Finance
- John Abdulai Jinapor (MP) – Minister for Energy and Green Transition
- Dominic Akuritinga Ayine (MP) – Attorney-General and Minister for Justice
Second Batch
A week later, on January 16, 2025, the President submitted the names of nine more nominees to the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin. These nominees were:
- Kwame Governs Agbodza (MP) – Minister for Roads and Highways
- Eric Opoku (MP) – Minister for Food and Agriculture
- Agnes Naa Momo Lartey (MP) – Minister for Gender, Children, and Social Protection
- Abla Dzifa Gomashie (MP) – Minister for Tourism, Culture, and Creative Arts
- Emelia Arthur (MP) – Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture
- George Opare-Addo – Minister for Youth and Empowerment
- Haruna Iddrisu (MP) – Minister for Education
- Ahmed Ibrahim (MP) – Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy, and Religious Affairs
- Elizabeth Ofosu Adjare (MP) – Minister for Trade, Agribusiness, and Industry
Third Batch
On January 21, 2025, President Mahama unveiled the third set of ministerial nominees, which included:
- Dr. Edward Omane Boamah – Minister for Defence
- Samuel Nartey George (MP) – Minister for Communication, Digital Technology, and Innovations
- Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah (MP) – Minister for Lands and Natural Resources
- Kofi Iddie Adams (MP) – Minister for Sports and Recreation
- Abdul-Rashid H. Pelpuo (MP) – Minister for Labour, Jobs, and Employment
- Kwabena Mintah Akandoh (MP) – Minister for Health
- Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed (MP) – Minister for Environment, Science, and Technology
- Joseph Bukari Nikpe (MP) – Minister for Transport
- Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak (MP) – Minister for Interior
- Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa (MP) – Minister for Foreign Affairs
- Adjei Kenneth Gilbert – Minister for Works, Housing, and Water Resources
- Emmanuel Kwadwo Agyekum (MP) – Minister of State for Special Initiatives
- Felix Kwakye Ofosu (MP) – Minister for Government Communications
- Issifu Seidu (MP) – Minister of State for Climate Change and Sustainability
Regional Ministers
President Mahama has also nominated 16 individuals to serve as regional ministers. The nominations were announced in three phases: the first on January 14, 2025, followed by additional names on January 16 and January 21. The appointees are:
- Puozuing Charles Lwanga – Upper West Region
- Joseph Addae Akwaboa – Bono Region
- Francis Owusu Antwi – Bono East Region
- Wilbert Petty Brentum – Western North Region
- Eduamoah Ekow Panyin Okyere – Central Region
- Joseph Nelson – Western Region
- Ali Adolf John – Northern Region
- John Kwadwo Gyapong – Oti Region
- James Gunu – Volta Region
- Mrs. Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey – Eastern Region
- Ibrahim Tia – North East Region
- Dr. Frank Amoakohene – Ashanti Region
- Akamugri Donatus Atanga – Upper East Region
- Charity Gardiner – Ahafo Region
- Salisu Be-Awuribe – Savannah Region
- Linda Ocloo (MP) – Greater Accra Region
