Respect outcome of the vetting process- NDC W/R chair tells aspirants
The vetting process for Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives across the 14 MMDAs is underway in the Western Region.
In total, 138 individuals submitted their applications for consideration.
At the NDC Western regional office today, 30 contestants, comprising parliamentary candidates and Constituency executives were present for the vetted positions of the Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives for EKMA, STMA, and Mpohor.
The NDC’s Parliamentary Candidate for Effia Constituency in the just-ended December polls, Majeed Dokrugu, who is an aspirant for the MCE position at EKMA, speaking to Beach FM expressed optimism about being shortlisted for the position.
“I’m competing for my municipality; we share it with Kwesimintsim constituency, EKMA. Just today, we have our 3 districts, MpohoR, EKMA, and then STMA. So a lot of us are competing for this position, and through the vetting, the region is expected to shortlist 3 and forward to Accra for the president to make his decision. So I’m expecting that at the close-up day, these three will be shortlisted.
I believe I’ll be part of it, and then the president will eventually choose to come and lead the people of Effia and Kwesimintsim this time around. “
Nana Toku, the NDC Regional Chairman, advised the contestants to respect the outcome of the vetting process, adding that there would be room for redress of any grievances if need be.
“Once you are coming, you know that you are not the best unless you have been chosen as the MMDC or DCE, then you are the best. Everybody can win. Everybody can lose. So for them, party work is big. They should respect the decision of the party.
They should make sure they calm their supporters because the party’s decision is supreme. And therefore, everyone must make sure we comply with the party rules and regulations of the party.”
“Unless we have crossed that bridge, I cannot say. Because some people may understand that, look, I didn’t win, but if it is my colleague, so be it. Some people also may think that it is not me, nobody.
We haven’t got there, so I cannot know what will happen unless, after the vetting and the selection from Accra, that’s where certain reasons and certain talkings will start coming up.
So everybody must respect the president who is the final authority and decision-maker, not anybody. So we want them to stay calm and give their respect to the president.”
