President orders investigation into Obuasi mine deaths

The government has expressed profound sorrow over the tragic loss of up to eight lives following a violent confrontation at a mining site in Obuasi, reportedly involving illegal miners.

President John Dramani Mahama has called for an immediate investigation to determine the circumstances of the clash and ensure that those responsible for any unlawful actions are held accountable.

In a statement from the Presidency, it was announced that the management of AngloGold Ashanti has been instructed to cover the medical costs of the injured and assist with burial arrangements for the deceased.

Additionally, security agencies have been instructed to restore peace in the area and take steps to prevent similar incidents in the future.

The government reaffirmed its dedication to delivering justice and upholding peace in the affected communities.
