President Mahama sets up Constitutional Review Committee
President John Dramani Mahama has made a notable move in advancing his commitment to the Constitutional Review Process by forming a Constitution Review Committee.
This committee, which includes experts from various fields, is charged with identifying gaps and challenges in previous constitutional review efforts and proposing amendments to the 1992 Constitution.
The committee, led by Prof. H. Kwasi Prempeh, consists of the following esteemed members:
1. Justice Sophia Adinyirah – Member
2. Prof. Kwame Karikari – Member
3. Mrs. Charlotte Osei – Member
4. Dr. Godwin Djokoto – Member
5. Ibrahim Tanko Amidu – Member
6. Dr. Esi Ansah – Member
7. Dr. Rainer Akumperigeya – Secretary
The committee’s mandate includes revisiting the work of the 2010 Constitution Review Commission and the 2023 Constitution Review Consultative Committee to identify challenges in implementation. Additionally, the committee will engage key stakeholders to gather input on proposed amendments and provide actionable recommendations aimed at strengthening Ghana’s democratic governance.
President Mahama reaffirmed his dedication to good governance and inclusive reform by appointing individuals with proven expertise and a strong commitment to national service.
“This committee brings together a wealth of experience, knowledge, and dedication to developing a more robust constitutional framework,” he stated.
The committee has been given a five-month timeline to complete its work and submit its recommendations to the government for consideration.
