Nintendo announces Switch 2 console, set for release this year
Nintendo has officially announced its next gaming console, the Nintendo Switch 2, in a reveal eagerly anticipated by gamers for years.
The successor to the popular Nintendo Switch is slated for release in 2025, the company confirmed on Thursday.
In a promotional video, Nintendo unveiled the console’s design, showcasing a larger device that resembles its predecessor.
The updated controllers, known as Joy-Cons, now attach to the sides of the main unit instead of sliding in, marking a design shift.
According to Nintendo, the Switch 2 will support exclusive games while maintaining compatibility with both physical and digital titles from the original Switch.
However, the company noted that some older games might not be fully compatible with the new system.
Details about the console, including a specific release date, remain sparse. Nintendo has promised to share more information during its April Nintendo Direct event.
Additionally, the company announced it will host “Nintendo Switch 2 Experience” events in several major cities, giving players the chance to try the system firsthand.
These events are planned for cities including Los Angeles, New York, London, and Paris, beginning in April.
