Popular Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan has successfully undergone surgery and is now out of danger after being stabbed by an intruder at his Mumbai home early Thursday morning.
The attack occurred in the upscale neighborhood where Khan resides with his wife, actress Kareena Kapoor Khan, and their two children.
Mumbai police reported that a scuffle broke out between Khan and the unidentified man who entered the residence sometime after midnight.
Khan’s team issued a statement confirming, “He has come out of surgery and is currently in recovery under close monitoring by doctors.”
Dr. Nitin Dange of Lilavati Hospital revealed the actor sustained a significant injury to the thoracic spinal cord caused by a lodged knife.
“We performed surgery to remove the knife and repair leaking spinal fluid.
He also had deep wounds on his left hand and neck that were addressed by our plastic surgery team,” Dr. Dange stated.
While the family has not publicly commented, Khan’s team reassured that they are safe, describing the incident as an “attempted burglary.”
They urged fans and media to remain patient, emphasizing, “It is a police matter.”
Mumbai Deputy Commissioner of Police Dixit Gedam explained that an argument ensued after the intruder entered the home.
Police have formed investigative teams but have yet to release further details.
Khan, known for his wit and versatility, has been a prominent figure in Bollywood since his debut in 1993.
He gained fame with romantic comedies such as Dil Chahta Hai and Kal Ho Naa Ho, and more recently with action-packed roles in Tanhaji and Devara: Part 1.
His performance as an antagonist in the critically acclaimed Omkara remains one of his most celebrated roles.
Hailing from the royal family of Pataudi, Khan’s lineage includes his father, Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi, a former Indian cricket team captain, and his mother, Sharmila Tagore, a veteran actress known for Hindi and Bengali cinema.
