Romanian court releases Andrew Tate from house arrest
Controversial influencer Andrew Tate has been released from house arrest by a Romanian court, pending the outcome of a criminal investigation, his spokesperson confirmed.
Tate, 38, is now under judicial control, allowing him to travel within Romania while following legal requirements.
Tate, along with his brother Tristan, faces accusations of trafficking minors, engaging in sexual intercourse with a minor, and money laundering. Both brothers deny the charges.
A spokesperson emphasized their commitment to cooperating fully and pursuing justice.
Tate had been under house arrest since August when prosecutors launched a second criminal investigation against him, Tristan, and four others for similar charges.
Additionally, a separate case against the brothers involving human trafficking and sexual exploitation of women was sent back by the Bucharest Court of Appeals in December for further review.
They deny all these allegations, including rape and trafficking charges in the UK, where police are seeking their extradition.
Tate and his brother have also been accused of tax evasion in the UK, with a British court ruling last month to seize over £2 million ($2.4 million) due to unpaid taxes on £21 million in revenue from their online businesses.
Andrew Tate described the ruling as “not justice” and called it a “coordinated attack.”
The former kickboxer has become infamous for his misogynistic views, which led to social media bans.
He has garnered millions of online followers and has been residing in Romania for several years, after moving from the UK.
