The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has expressed deep appreciation to President John Dramani Mahama for honoring his pledge to remove the budgetary cap on the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).
In a statement issued today, the NHIA lauded the decision, made during the National Prayer and Thanksgiving Service at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), as a “significant milestone” for the scheme.
By lifting the budgetary cap, the government has underscored its commitment to bolstering Ghana’s healthcare system and ensuring the long-term sustainability of NHIS funding.
The NHIA emphasized that this decisive action will have far-reaching benefits for healthcare delivery across the nation. The additional resources will enable the NHIS to expand coverage, expedite claims processing, and enhance service delivery. Ultimately, it will ensure that all Ghanaians, regardless of their economic background, can access quality and affordable healthcare.
“This decision represents a major step towards realizing our goal of Universal Health Coverage (UHC) for all Ghanaians,” the statement stated. “We are dedicated to collaborating with all stakeholders to optimize the advantages of this vital intervention for the well-being of our nation.”
