The Presidency has officially announced the termination of appointments to statutory boards, corporations, commissions, and councils made by the previous administration.
This directive, issued in accordance with the Presidential (Transition) Act, 2012 (Act 845), came into effect following the swearing-in of President John Dramani Mahama on January 7, 2025.
A statement from Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Acting Spokesperson for the President, clarified that all board members appointed by the former President or any former Minister of State are no longer in office. However, commissions that are independent constitutional bodies are excluded from this directive.
The statement further highlighted that the affected bodies would be reconstituted in due course, in line with their respective enabling laws. In the interim, the management of these statutory bodies has been instructed to seek approval from the Chief of Staff before making any significant decisions.
The President expressed appreciation for the service of all affected members and wished them success in their future endeavors.
This marks a key step in the transition process, as the current administration moves to restructure critical statutory institutions in alignment with its governance priorities.
