Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, the Finance Minister-designate, has dismissed claims that he plans to seek additional financial assistance from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) despite the country’s ongoing program with the institution.
During his vetting before Parliament’s Appointments Committee on Monday, January 13, Dr. Forson clarified that media reports suggesting he intended to request more funds from the IMF were inaccurate.
“I never said I was going to request additional financing from the IMF,” he stated. “That’s a misrepresentation. What I said was that such a move could be considered if the situation demands it.”
Dr. Forson explained that his remarks were purely speculative, highlighting the importance of flexibility in navigating Ghana’s economic challenges.
He emphasized that seeking additional IMF support would only be an option if warranted by future circumstances, adding that such decisions would be made with the nation’s best interests in mind.
The Finance Minister-designate, Dr Ato Forson also urged the media to report his statements accurately to prevent unnecessary public confusion.
Reaffirming his commitment to sound financial management, Dr. Forson pledged to explore all viable strategies to ensure Ghana’s economic stability.
