Economist Dr. Peter Terkper has urged Finance Minister-designate Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson to focus on addressing Ghana’s economic challenges rather than getting caught up in political rhetoric.
Dr. Terkper pointed out that Dr. Forson’s appointment comes at a critical moment when strong and decisive actions are required to stabilize the economy, even if those decisions may not be well-received.
He stressed that Dr. Forson should view his role as a responsibility to serve the country rather than seeing it as a reward for political loyalty.
“It is now the time for him to walk the talk that we have hearing all this while. Finance is a major issue. And so when you are placed there, it is not about politics. It is about solving problems.”
He added that, “And so you have to take very unpleasant, painful decisions that most of the time may not inure to the benefit of the party, but to the country is good. So he should look at the interest of the country when taking decisions, because Ghana is eagerly waiting to see something better. “
And as a result, his nomination should not come with excitement, but should come with the challenges that we face that we want problem to be solved for. ”
“He should not see his appointment as he being rewarded for his loyalty or standing firm for the party in parliament. And as a result, he will end up taking certain decisions that will not help.
He should see it as a core beauty to serve mother Ghana. And they should not forget that their actions would depend on their chances in the next election. So they have no option to succeed. They have no option to make sure that the right thing is done,” Dr. Terkper said.
