President Mahama pledges to transform Ghana with a vision for a 24-hour economy

The newly elected President of the Republic of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama, has reaffirmed his commitment to transforming the country into a dynamic 24-hour economy, with a focus on agriculture and agribusiness.

In his historic inaugural address at the swearing-in ceremony on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, Mahama promised to harness the nation’s untapped potential, aiming to create a resilient and inclusive economic framework that empowers citizens and draws global investment.

He envisioned a nation where vibrant markets function 24/7, businesses flourish with adaptable operations, and vital public services are available around the clock.

“Imagine a Ghana where every citizen, regardless of their background, can actively contribute to our national progress. This vision is not just about economic transactions but about empowerment- empowering every Ghanaian to enjoy the fruits of their hard work,” he said.

He further stressed that the 24-hour economy would not only address the varied needs of contemporary life but also drive youth employment, boost local industries, and position the country as a hub for global trade.

In this regard, he urged business leaders and entrepreneurs to embrace the 24-hour economy model, assuring them of a fair and transparent tax system designed to encourage innovation and investment.

Additionally, he reiterated the nation’s dedication to fostering a conducive business environment, declaring, “Ghana is open for business again.”

The swearing-in ceremony was graced by numerous dignitaries, both local and international, who praised the ambitious economic agenda.
