Mahama lauds Bawumia’s swift concession in 2024 election

Ghana’s newly inaugurated President, John Dramani Mahama, has commended Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the 2024 Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), for his quick concession of defeat following the general elections.

In his inaugural speech on January 7 at Independence Square in Accra, Mahama expressed gratitude for Bawumia’s timely acknowledgment of the electoral outcome, which played a significant role in calming tensions after the elections.

“I extend my warmest wishes to H.E. former Vice President, Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, it was a gruelling campaign. And we gave it our all,” Mahama stated.

He continued, “Your sportsmanship in making an early concession eased tensions and contributed to the early conclusion of the electoral contest. I wish you all the best in your endeavours.”

Bawumia had earlier conceded defeat on December 8, extending his congratulations to Mahama and personally calling him to convey his message.
