The Deputy Minority Leader and Member of Parliament for Ellembele, Emmanuel Armah Kofi-Buah, has stated that Ghanaians have reached their breaking point with what he called the worst government in the 4th Republic.
“We have come to the end of the road under what has undoubtedly been the worst government in the Fourth Republic. Rt. Hon. Speaker, this abysmal record was confirmed on December 7 when the people of Ghana returned the most overwhelming and emphatic vote of rejection of any government ever witnessed under the 4th Republic,“ he said.
The National Democratic Congress MP made these remarks on the floor of Parliament shortly after President Akufo-Addo delivered his final State of the Nation Address (SONA) on January 3.
Mr. Armah-Kofi Buah also took aim at the president for what he described as reckless borrowing and mismanagement of state resources, specifically highlighting the National Cathedral project.
“Mr President, you will be remembered as the first president who was cushioned by the IMF when you began, and you are still being cushioned at the end of your term. You left something very important in your account—you left out an account of your promise to God to build a cathedral. But, Mr President, I will leave that between you and your God,” He said.
In his address, President Akufo-Addo highlighted a range of intervention programs, policies, and initiatives he has implemented over the past eight years to propel the country forward. He expressed optimism about the progress of the economy and expressed hope that the incoming government would build on this positive momentum.
However, Mr. Kofi-Buah didn’t hold back, telling the outgoing president, …..”Let me remind His Excellency that his tenure in office will remain a timely reminder of how not to govern a country.”
Mr. Kofi-Buah reassured the people of Ghana that hope is on the horizon, encouraging confidence in the incoming leadership of President John Dramani Mahama and the NDC.
“But let me also be quick to assure the good people of Ghana that hope is on its way. With President John Dramani Mahama and the NDC, we can once again have a brighter future from the thrones of despair. Together, we will work hard to lift ourselves from the historic blow and reclaim our place, our glory as the black star of Africa,” he stated.
