Two men found dead in Washington forest while searching for Bigfoot
Two men from Portland, Oregon, were found dead in a remote forest in Washington State after they went searching for Sasquatch, also known as Bigfoot.
Their bodies were discovered following a three-day search initiated on Christmas Day, after a family member reported they had not returned from their trip to the Gifford Pinchot National Forest, where they sought evidence of the mythical creature.
Over 60 volunteers participated in the search, which included the use of aircraft, dogs, drones, and a Coast Guard helicopter team.
The Skamania County Sheriff’s Office noted that the men, aged 37 and 59, likely died from exposure due to harsh weather conditions and being ill-prepared.
The sheriff’s office had initially located the men’s car near Willard, which led to a renewed search in the area.
Weather conditions in the Cascade Mountains during the search were particularly severe, with snow, freezing rain, and sub-freezing temperatures.
Rescuers also had to navigate high water levels and fallen trees.
Sasquatch, or Bigfoot, is a legendary creature often reported in the Pacific Northwest and western Canada, with numerous alleged sightings.
The creature has become a famous cryptid, alongside the Loch Ness Monster.
In Skamania County, where the men went missing, it is illegal to harm Sasquatch, with violators facing up to a year in jail or a $1,000 fine.
