PPP rejects EC’s decision to rerun Dome Kwabenya elections
The Progressive People’s Party (PPP) has strongly condemned the Electoral Commission’s (EC) decision to conduct a rerun in the Dome Kwabenya constituency.
This decision, which involves a rerun of elections at the Abokobi Women’s Development Centre polling station, has also been rejected by the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
In a statement issued on December 30, Nana Ofori Owusu, the National Chairman of the PPP, called on the EC to reconsider its decision, describing it as “unlawful.”
The PPP argued that the move was an “unfair machination to twist the hands of the voters,” accusing the EC of trying to sway the results in favor of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) candidate, Mike Oquaye Jnr.
“The Progressive People’s Party has taken note of the Electoral Commission’s decision to run fresh elections at the Abokobi Women’s Development Training Centre polling station within the Dome Kwabenya constituency,” the statement read.
“We call on the EC to desist from such acts, as they are unlawful and amount to an unfair attempt to manipulate the will of voters who had already exercised their right to vote on December 7, 2024.”
The PPP further criticized the EC’s decision as “bizarre” and claimed it was an attempt to influence the outcome of the parliamentary elections in Dome Kwabenya to favor the NPP candidate, who they assert clearly lost to the NDC candidate.
The party labeled the decision as “shallow and untenable.”
