Mahama visits Kenyan President Ruto to strengthen bilateral ties
President-elect John Dramani Mahama visited Kenyan President William Ruto to engage in discussions on regional integration and continental security.
During the visit, Mahama emphasized his commitment to improving trade between African nations within the framework of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
In a Facebook post after the meeting on Sunday, December 29, Mahama expressed his appreciation for President Ruto’s long-standing support and said, “It was a great opportunity to discuss our regional integration efforts, continental security, and how we can work collectively to upscale the benefits of the AfCFTA.
As a former Chair of the AU high-level committee on Trade, I remain committed to expanding trade among our countries under the aegis of the AfCFTA. We shall strengthen relations between Kenya and Ghana.”
President Ruto, in turn, reiterated his commitment to bolstering the relationship between Kenya and Ghana.
He highlighted the importance of expanding collaboration in key sectors such as trade, investment, agriculture, mining, tourism, and oil and gas, aiming to create greater opportunities for both nations’ citizens and promote mutual prosperity.
Ruto also thanked Mahama for supporting Hon. Raila Odinga’s candidacy for Chairperson of the African Union Commission and confirmed his attendance at Mahama’s inauguration on January 7.
