Afua Asantewaa completes second GWR singathon attempt at 121 hours
Afua Asantewaa O. Aduonum has achieved an incredible milestone, completing 121 hours and 39 minutes of continuous singing in her second attempt to set the Guinness World Record (GWR) for the longest singing marathon by an individual.
Held at the Heroes’ Park at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi, the event captivated audiences with its celebration of Ghanaian music.
Afua’s marathon began on the morning of December 21, 2024, and concluded on December 25, 2024—a day symbolic of joy and festivity.
Over the five-day stretch, the 34-year-old singer and media personality performed more than 200 songs spanning a variety of Ghanaian genres, including gospel, highlife, afrobeat, and hiplife.
Reflecting on her accomplishment, Afua expressed her deep sense of satisfaction. “I am fulfilled considering the fact that I succeeded in promoting Ghanaian songs,” she shared.
She also acknowledged the vital role played by her support team.
“Of course, my team—comprising Gladys Osei Owiredu (manager), Kofi Owusu Aduonum (husband and Head of PR), Fredrick Fosu, Kelvin Abban (Creatives), and Isaac Amponsah (Operations)—were instrumental in this journey,” she noted.
This marks Afua Asantewaa’s second attempt at the record. In 2023, she surpassed India’s Sunil Waghmare’s 105-hour record with a staggering 126-hour performance.
However, that attempt was disqualified due to technicalities. Undeterred, Afua returned better prepared, completing 121 hours and 39 minutes this year.
Her perseverance and determination inspired many, drawing large crowds to Heroes’ Park in support of her effort.
With the marathon completed, Afua and her team now turn their focus to the next critical step: submitting evidence to Guinness World Records for validation.
This process requires providing comprehensive documentation, including video recordings, witness statements, and logs, to demonstrate compliance with all guidelines.
If her submission is approved, Afua Asantewaa will officially secure her place in history as a Guinness World Record holder.
