The developer of the Saglemi Affordable Housing Project, Quarm LMI Consortium, has confirmed that a recent fire at the project site did not affect any housing units or critical documents.

According to Managing Director Kofi Adaboh Ofori Amanfo, the fire resulted from an attempt to clear overgrown weeds as part of preparations to resume work on the abandoned project.

Unfortunately, the fire spread to external warehouses housing expired building materials.

During a media briefing at the site on Wednesday, December 26, alongside the Minister of Works and Housing, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, Mr. Amanfo provided details on the incident:

“Yesterday, around 1 o’clock, our labourers were working on the campsite as part of efforts to prepare for actual development.

In the process of clearing gathered weeds, they set a small fire that went out of control and spread to one of our external warehouses,” he explained.

He added that firefighters from the Sege Fire Station managed to extinguish the blaze. “It’s important to clarify that the houses themselves were not affected.

As you can see behind me, the housing units remain untouched, and we haven’t started working on them yet,” he stated.

Minister Kojo Oppong Nkrumah urged the consortium to expedite work on the project while adhering to building codes and safety standards. He emphasized the importance of timely delivery:

“In line with the building codes and site layout, ensure full compliance. Stick to the timelines you’ve provided for completing this project,” the Minister said.

He also noted the importance of transparency regarding the incident:
“We’ll wait for a detailed update from the fire department on what may have been lost in the old storage area that was affected.

However, I am relieved to see that the housing units remain intact. The fire only impacted two old sheds and two containers, which gives us some reassurance. Please continue with the work,” Mr. Oppong Nkrumah concluded.
