NDC rejects re-collated Parliamentary election results, accuses EC of undermining democracy

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has firmly rejected the re-collated parliamentary election results declared by the Electoral Commission (EC) for several constituencies on Saturday, December 21, 2024.

The party asserts that these results were announced under questionable and unlawful circumstances, describing them as a “blatant assault” on Ghana’s democratic principles and a betrayal of the people’s sovereign will.

In a statement signed by the NDC General Secretary, Hon. Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, the party accused the EC, led by Jean Mensa, of actions that undermine the integrity of Ghana’s electoral process. The NDC further alleged that the EC’s conduct has eroded its mandate and deepened public mistrust in the institution.

The statement also expressed concerns about an alleged “unholy alliance” between the EC, the police, and the military, which the party claimed enabled the manipulation of election results to favor the New Patriotic Party (NPP). The NDC condemned the EC’s disregard for a court-issued Stay of Execution order, describing it as a blatant violation of the rule of law.

The NDC, expressing disappointment at the silence of the National Peace Council and other moral bodies, called on the international community to take note of the EC’s actions, warning that they pose a serious threat to Ghana’s peace, stability, and democratic progress.

The party reiterated its commitment to protecting Ghana’s democracy and vowed to resist any efforts to undermine the people’s mandate, as expressed in the December 7 general elections.

“The NDC will remain steadfast in mobilizing its supporters and rallying Ghanaians to oppose any efforts to overturn the people’s mandate. United, we will defend the principles of democracy and work towards a brighter future for our nation,” the statement concluded.
