Old Students Association of Fijai SHS refurbishes Science And Visual Arts Departments
In a move to sustain the educational gains of their alma mater, the Fijai Old Students Association has undertaken a major infrastructural development in the school.
At an opening and handover ceremony at the school premises in Sekondi, Mr. Mark Kojo Boafo, the FOSA North America Group, in a presentation, said the gesture was in fulfilment of the association’s commitment to creating an enabling environment for educational growth.
According to him, it is the aim of the association to see the school reach higher on the educational pedestal.
Recounting the successes chalked by the school in the National Science and Maths Quiz, Mr. Kojo Boafo noted that all efforts are being made to see the school get to the national level.
” FOSA North America, we are based in the US, and we have this National Science Math Quiz coming out of it just to refurbish the place. It started when we realized that Fijai had come out of the National Science Marathon quiz. I mean, we went here for the first time, the second time, and we dropped. So we decided that, okay, let’s take one of the labs and refurbish it. Maybe it will help”
So for the past 2 years, we’ve been sponsoring the National Science, Maths Quiz just because we want to upgrade students in doing well in the science subjects. So coupled with that is, you know, refurbishing this place, bringing in some computers for them to stay in the world and get better in the future science, maths and quiz. “
“We are not just going to refurbish this and live it for the teachers, the students to be using without, I wouldn’t say, without putting in more investment. We will soon put CCTV cameras here so that even when we are in the US, we’ll be able to monitor whether the place is being kept well. If you had seen this place before the renovation, I mean, nobody will come in here and pass in the exam.
Yeah. But now we believe that when we get a smart board, we believe a lot of improvement will come in their way.”
The science lab and visual arts studios are furnished with modern technological equipment like computers, internet connectivity, and artistic display areas.
The Headmaster of the School, Mr Kenneth Agbomadzi, expressed excitement about the gesture made for the school and promised to put it to good use.
“Today is a special day in the annals of our great school. A special day because three important activities will be taking place soon, which you all witness. Brilliant personalities spread across the globe who have secured all students. And this is to motivate you, the current student, to also aspire to greatness. We are grateful to our old students.
We wish all of you well.”
The student body expressed appreciation and was optimistic that these refurbished centres would help fulfil their academic advancements.
In a related development, sod was cut for the construction of a carpentry workshop.
