Bishop Salifu Amoako’s son sentenced to six months in prison
A Juvenile Court in Accra, under the leadership of Her Worship Bernice Mensimah Ackon, has sentenced Bishop Salifu Amoako’s 16-year-old son to six months at the Senior Correctional Center for manslaughter.
The sentence was handed down after the teenager pleaded guilty, and the court applied the Juvenile Justice Act, which stipulates a maximum six-month sentence for a juvenile in manslaughter cases.
Initially, the teenager had pleaded not guilty to eight charges, including two counts of manslaughter, three counts of negligently causing harm, two counts of dangerous driving, and one count of driving without a valid license. However, he later changed his plea to guilty.
As part of the ruling, the court mandated the juvenile to sign an undertaking to refrain from driving until he turns 18, in accordance with Ghanaian law. Additionally, the teenager is required to report to Probation Officers every Friday throughout his sentence.
In a related ruling, the court imposed a fine of 500 penalty units (equivalent to GH₵6,000) each on Bishop Salifu Amoako and his wife, Mouha Amoako, for their failure to properly supervise their son. The court also ordered Bishop Salifu Amoako to cover the cost of property damage, including the destruction of a light pole valued at over GH₵8,000.
